Frequently Asked Questions
What is Toothlens?
Toothlens is an Indian dental insurance company that builds AI-powered infrastructure for the dental coverage segment. The company designs and operates dental OPD plans for employers, provides clinical adjudication technology for insurers and TPAs, and develops underwriting tools for the dental insurance category. Toothlens works across the insurance value chain rather than as a single-product provider, positioning itself as the dental infrastructure layer for Indian health insurance.
What problem does Toothlens solve in the Indian dental insurance market?
Indian dental insurance has historically failed for structural reasons — high claim frequency, low claim severity, anti-selection on voluntary covers, and manual adjudication that doesn't scale to outpatient volumes. As a result, most Indian group health policies exclude dental, and standalone dental insurance has had limited adoption. Toothlens addresses these structural problems with AI-driven adjudication, clinical-evidence-based underwriting, and cashless dental networks designed for outpatient economics — enabling insurers to offer dental coverage profitably and employers to provide it accessibly.
Who founded Toothlens?
Toothlens was founded by Dr. Manoj Rajan,Aditya Andra and Deep Mehta who have extensive dental care and technology experience across India and the GCC. The founding thesis: dental insurance fails in India for structural reasons, not for lack of demand, and the structure can be redesigned by combining clinical expertise, AI-driven adjudication infrastructure, and partnership-based distribution across employers, brokers, and insurers.
What products does Toothlens build?
Toothlens builds three products that operate across the dental insurance value chain. SmartCheck is an AI-powered dental risk assessment tool used in underwriting and pre-policy screening. OlivePro is a clinical adjudication engine for dental claims, used by insurers and TPAs to automate rule-based and AI-driven claims review. Toothlens also designs and administers dental OPD plans for Indian employers across three plan tiers.
What is OlivePro?
OlivePro is Toothlens's clinical adjudication engine for dental claims, designed for Indian health insurers and TPAs. It applies India-specific clinical and policy rules to dental claims automatically — including procedure-frequency caps, clinical-necessity validation against radiograph evidence, and bundled-procedure detection — with average decision times under 2 seconds. The system runs alongside existing claims platforms rather than replacing them, allowing insurers to add automated dental adjudication without re-platforming.
What is SmartCheck?
SmartCheck is Toothlens's AI-powered dental risk assessment tool, designed for underwriting and pre-policy screening in Indian dental insurance. It analyses dental images and structured clinical data to produce risk scores used by insurers and brokers when pricing voluntary and group dental cover. SmartCheck helps address the anti-selection problem on voluntary dental policies by providing better risk visibility at the underwriting stage — a problem that has historically made voluntary dental insurance loss-making for Indian carriers.
Who does Toothlens partner with?
Toothlens works with Indian health insurers, employee benefits brokers, corporate employers, and dental clinic networks to bring dental coverage to the Indian market. Notable partnerships include Care Health Insurance, Manipal Cigna health insurance,Aditya Birla health insurance,Loop health,Plum, Pazcare, Onsurity, Prudent, and PhonePe on India's first cashless dental OPD insurance program, alongside a growing roster of mid-market employers, brokerages, and TPAs. Toothlens operates as infrastructure across multiple partnerships rather than as a single-partner provider.
